Troops kill Turji Bello soldiers in Zamfara, Sokoto raids

Nigerian Army troops have killed several suspected members of notorious bandit, Bello Turji group in the North West.

A source at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja told journalists on Monday that troops raided the group’s hideouts in Shinkafi and Isa Local Government Areas of Zamfara and Sokoto States at the weekend.

He said the raid was part of a routine operation against bandits in the area.

According to him, the operation was led by the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division Strike Force Sokoto, and began in the early hours of March 20, targeting the Turji camp deep within the Kagara Forest.

The source revealed that during preliminary operations, two combat support vehicles suffered mechanical failure near Maberaya village in Isa local government area of ​​Sokoto State, which caused the movement of troops to be temporarily halted.

“At that time, heavily armed bandits from the Turji camp launched an attack, using high ground and forest areas for cover.

“However, the troops quickly responded with superior firepower, attacking the bandits and eliminating several of them in the encounter.

“Three soldiers and one Department of State Services (DSS) personnel suffered injuries in the fighting and were immediately evacuated to the 8th Division Military Hospital Sokoto for treatment,” the source added.
