Troops thwart suspected IPOB attack in Enugu

Troops of Operation UDO KA, have thwarted an attack suspected by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Inez I-beam community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of ​​Enugu State.

Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 82nd Division, Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Enugu.

Ayeni said that the operation carried out together with other security forces on May 6 was a follow-up to traces of terrorist collaborators in society.

He said that when the troops were walking towards the community, they were attacked from a building, resulting in three personnel being injured.

He added that three soldiers were injured in the attack.

The spokesperson said the injured personnel were currently receiving treatment at a military medical facility.

He said, “During the exchange of fire, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) kept by the terrorists in the building used as their hideout exploded, and started a fire that destroyed the hideout.

“Subsequent searches around the general area uncovered more IEDs, homemade hand grenades and shrines used for ritual activities.

“The temple was thoroughly combed and destroyed. This was to prevent its further use for criminal activities and to protect members of the public.

“One of the collaborators was arrested during exploitation around the general area.

“The detained suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to the Nigerian Police, Ezeagu Division, for further investigation.”
