Two men have been sentenced to death for armed robbery in Ekiti

The Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday, sentenced two men, Ojo Olasunkanmi and Obamoyegun Dele to death by hanging for armed robbery.

The state government charged the convicts with six counts of conspiracy and armed robbery

The offence, according to the prosecutor, is contrary to Sections 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Nigerian Federation, 2004.

The court heard that the offense was committed on August 11, 2018, in Oganganmodu area, Ido-Ekiti.

In his ruling, Judge Bamidele Omotoso stated that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Omotoso argued that the conspiracy charge was established through the coordinated actions of the defendants for a common criminal purpose.

“I resolved all problems in the interests of prosecuting the defendants.

“Therefore, the defendants were found guilty according to the indictment.

“For conspiracy and armed robbery, the sentence of this court is that defendants Ojo Tosin Olasunkanmi and Obamoyegun Dele are hanged by the neck until they die.

“May God have mercy on your soul,” the judge said.
