The conservative leader Kemi Badenoch rejected the requests for resignation following the disastrous local electoral results, warning that the change of leaders “will not be enough”.
The Tories have lost over 600 councilors and all 15 councils they checked, with the UK reform that increased support and pushed the conservatories in third place in many areas.
According to her “what this shows, for many people who hoped that the only change of leader would solve everything, is that it will not be enough,” he said. “We tried it previously and this led us to a historical defeat.”
Jason Smithers, former leader of the Northamptonshire Council Northmptonshire, who turned to the reform, said he would urge Badenoch to resign: “He did not help in these elections; once he did not go on and helped at all”.
But Badenoch defended his strategy: “This is six months in a five -year project. What we are doing is stabilizing the ship, being united … The reform had a good night, we spent a bad night”.
He recognized the frustration that guides the rise of the reform: “The protest is in the air … I suspect that things will worsen”.
On Nigel Farage the chances of becoming prime minister, he said: “Everything is feasible”. But he added: “My job is to make sure it did not become a prosecutor because he does not have the answers to the problems that the country is facing”.
