Nigerian international striker Victor Boniface demonstrated his readiness for the start of the new season with a brace for Bayer Leverkusen in a 7-0 victory over amateur team Sportfreunde Baumberg, reports OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Boniface is back at the club after spending last season on loan at Werder Bremen, where he failed to make enough of an impact to earn a permanent contract.
He was the first of the club’s players to resume pre-season training and it didn’t take long for him to leave his mark with a double. A sign that he is returning to the form that made him an instant success at the club when he arrived three seasons ago.
Fellow Nigerian international Nathan Tella also scored some goals in his start under new coach Carles Martínez Novell.
The Spanish coach was officially appointed in June 2026 with a two-year contract until June 2028, taking over after the departure of Kasper Hjulmand.
