WCQ Group Leader S’Africa may lose points for players who do not meet the requirements

The leaders of the Super Eagles World Cup qualifying group group, Bafana Bafana, South Africa, may have points deducted by the authorities.

South Africa is currently 13 points from six matches in the qualifying series, and hopes to choose an automatic place for the 2026 World Cup.

But their road to Mundial might crash into a potential road barrier following the controversy of the yellow card around the Teboho Mokoena midfielder.

According to reports, Mokoena might not be eligible to play in their 5 match against Lesotho.

Mokoena received a yellow card in their match 1 match against Benin Republic (MD1) and another in the following match against Zimbabwe.

According to FIFA’s rules, a player who collects two yellow cards in a separate match must present a suspension of one match. This means that Mokoena should not appear at Lesotho’s meeting.

Apart from the clear rules, Mokoena was included in the initial line-up for the 5 match against Lesotho, playing 81 minutes before being replaced.

If the report is confirmed, this can cause sanctions in South Africa and they may face deduction points to reduce players who do not meet the requirements.

Remember that in 2017, FIFA fined the Nigerian Football Federation 6,000 Franc Swiss (around N2.177.280) for lowering players who did not meet the requirements in the 2018 Russian World Cup qualifying match.

The Disciplinary Committee in a statement said the African champion three times fielded Shehu Abdullahi who did not meet the requirements for the qualification against Algeria on November 10, 2017.

The committee gave 3-0 supporting Algeria, with the NFF also received a fine of $ 6,045.30.
