Wike’s faction rejected claims of a leadership vacuum in the PDP

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a leadership vacuum within its ranks following the Supreme Court ruling on Thursday.

The party said that Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party.

The National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Junudo Mohammed, stated this at a press conference on Friday in Abuja.

Mohammed said the apex court decision was solely related to the legality of the Ibadan convention and did not affect the current National Working Committee (NWC).

“Let it be clear and unambiguous that yesterday’s Supreme Court decision only annulled the illegal Ibadan Convention and dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led NWC as lacking merit.

“This remains the sole substance of the ruling, contrary to the false narrative circulating. The ruling does not support the suspension or dismissal of any party official.

“The reason is simple: the issue of suspension or expulsion has never been referred to the Federal High Court, let alone the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court.

“This matter was not discussed in the Federal High Court or formed part of the determining question at any level of decision.

“The apex court only discussed the previous issue, namely whether or not the Ibadan Convention of November 15 and November 16 was valid.

“Therefore, throughout the Supreme Court’s decision, there is not a single mention of the suspension or dismissal of any party officials,” he said.

Mohammed said that there has never been a vacuum, obstruction or absence of leadership in the PDP that necessitated a temporary takeover of the Party administration by any authority.

He noted that the PDP leadership structure remains intact, legitimate and fully operational under the National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

The Supreme Court on Thursday annulled the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and appointed former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, as national chairman.
