WWC U-20: The Falconets arrive in Katowice for the confrontation with Spain

The Nigerian Falconets arrived in Katowice on Thursday as preparations entered the final phase ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The team left their training base in Trzebnica and checked into the Novotel Katowice Centrum ahead of their first Group F clash against Spain on Monday.

The Falconets spent 10 days in Trzebnica, where coach Moses Aduku and his technical team worked intensively on tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and overall team cohesion.

The training camp also allowed the players to acclimatise to the conditions in Poland and improve their fitness before the start of the tournament.

As part of their preparation, the Falconets played two international friendly matches against Poland and the Republic of Korea.

Aduku’s team defeated hosts Poland 1-0 last Friday, with Mary Mamudu scoring the winning goal in the first half.

On Tuesday they drew 1-1 against Korea Republic in their final warm-up match, in which Mamudu scored again.

The two friendlies gave the technical team the opportunity to evaluate the squad against different rivals and refine their plans for the World Cup.

With the preparation phase in Trzebnica complete, attention has turned to Katowice as the Falconets prepare for their first match against Spain.

Nigeria is drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.

After facing Spain on Monday, the Falconets will take on China PR on September 10 before completing their campaign in the group stage against New Caledonia on September 13.
