Yahaya Bello: The court will rule on the admissibility of EFCC witness statements on June 15

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday fixed June 15 to decide whether the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness statement sought to be presented in the trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is admissible in accordance with the Evidence Act or not.

The judge fixed the date after EFCC counsel, Kayode Enitan (SAN), and lawyer for the former governor, Adebayo Adedeji (SAN), submitted their submissions on the merits of the application.

This development occurred when Enitan attempted to submit the statement of the 14th Public Prosecutor’s witness (PW-14), Shehu Bello, as a continuation of the evidence.

Earlier, when the matter was being heard, EFCC principal counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), told the court that the matter was scheduled for the continuation of the examination of chief PW-14.

Pinheiro said he would allow his colleague, Enitan, to lead the witness in evidence.

When taken in evidence, the witness told the court of his involvement in the property located at Plot 1891, Dalla Hills, Maitama in Abuja.

He said: “My friend, Ali Bello, contacted me if I knew of a good construction company that could build him a house.

“So I recommended a company, Metro Deck Construction Company Limited. I brought them in and he gave them the job of building a house for him.”

When asked how the company received payments, the witness said Ali Bello made transfers to them, and on several occasions, he paid them in cash.
