Zimbabwe Chief coach Michael Nees has sounded a warning note to his players before the World Cup Classifying Game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.
Zimbabwe fought from two goals to attract 2-2 at home against Benin Republic on Thursday, while Nigeria secured his first victory in the qualifiers with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday.
Talking before the game at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Nees said that his players should try to avoid the slow beginning that saw them two goals against Benin Republic against the super eagles, due to the quality of the Nigerian team.
He said: “Nigeria is an absolute higher level. We cannot allow a slow beginning to occur for the game …
“We must be there from the beginning in our game. Our concentration must be there because the goals (against Benin on Thursday), when you look at him, they were a bit endowed with us.”
Nees went ahead to qualify the possibilities that his team will reach the 2026 World Cup saying that there are still many points to play, and will not give up until the end.
“No one can predict anything. As a athlete, you have to fight until the end because everyone wants fair competition.
“That is number one. If you don’t do that, you shouldn’t play football. Secondly, the group has not yet decided. There are still 15 points to play and we must take each game seriously.”
