2027: Rotimi Amaechi joins the ADC presidential race and gets the form

Former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi has officially entered the race for the 2027 presidency after obtaining the expression of interest and nomination form from the African Democratic Congress.

The nomination form, which reportedly costs ₦90 million, was collected at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

A delegation led by former Edo State governor John Odigie-Oyegun and including Senator Abatemi-Usman collected the form on behalf of Amaechi.

Amaechi, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and two-term governor of Rivers State, is now the second aspirant to formally participate in the ADC presidential contest, after Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

His supporters said he received support from several groups, including some within the party’s South-South region.

The former minister consistently advocated for reforms focusing on security, economic development, infrastructure, youth inclusion and rotation of power in the southern region.

Amaechi also said his experience in governance places him in a strong position to address Nigeria’s challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
