5-star Germany beat Scotland in the opening match of Euro 2024

Germany performed very well in the opening match of Euro 2024 when they slaughtered Scotland 5-1 on Friday night.

The hosts ensured they started their campaign on a winning note as they entertained the home fans with plenty of goal celebrations.

Scotland, who finished the match with 10 men following a red card for Ryan Porteous late in the first half, were completely outclassed.

Goals from Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala put Germany ahead before Porteous fouled Iikay Gundogan as confirmed by VAR and Kai Havertz converted the resulting penalty.

In the second half, Niclas Füllkrug added a fourth for Germany and soon had another goal disallowed, before Antonio Rüdiger scored an own goal to give Scotland a consolation.

Germany continued to press and managed to score their fifth goal in added time through Emre Can.

They top Group A and will face Hungary in their next match next Wednesday. Hungary will face Switzerland in their other group match on Saturday.
