66th anniversary of independence: With reforms, Tinubu laid solid foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity – Obasa

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has said Nigerians will better appreciate and fully enjoy the benefits of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms if the president is re-elected in 2027.

He disclosed this in a statement signed by Adeshina Oyetayo, his Special Adviser on Research, Media and Documentation. The longest serving Lagos lawmaker congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the Independence anniversary and particularly praised their love and support for the President.

He also extended his congratulations and gratitude to the industrious residents of Lagos State and, in particular, his constituents in Agege.

The President’s defense is based on this year’s anniversary theme; “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity,” which he says is not just a political slogan but an apt description of what Nigerians must do to enjoy the benefits of the painful reforms of recent years.

“Each Independence Day anniversary reminds us of our trajectory as a nation and a time to ask ourselves salient questions about what we want as a nation; whether we want to continue living in illusion or we want to be realistic.

“President Tinubu has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity with reforms. Stability is now being consolidated. For the first time in 18 years, Nigeria’s gross foreign exchange reserves stood at $55.25 billion by the end of September 2026. We have witnessed increased revenue, investment inflows and growth data which are clear signs of deliberate repairs.

“The next task is not to back down, but to finish the work started in 2023, complete major road, rail and port projects, boost local refining capacity and the energy transition; strengthen agriculture and human capital; and ensure the fiscal recovery reaches markets, classrooms and homes.

“That’s why the anniversary theme is important. We should understand that reforms without consolidation are like abandoning a sprint after 50 meters without any significant injury. Our story will not be like that, all things being equal.”

Continuing, President Obasa said the 2027 elections are therefore a referendum on whether Nigerians want the Tinubu administration to build on what it has started or be reversed by selfish political buccaneers.

In conclusion, Speaker Obasa said a second term would give the Renewed Hope Agenda the time needed to stabilize the country. He also promised that the Lagos State House of Assembly will continue to work with the Federal Government because Lagos, as the commercial hub of Nigeria, has long understood that progress is ensured by consistency of purpose.
