NPFL Pre-Season: Comprehensive referee assessment and training programme announced

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is gearing up for an exciting new season, and preparation begins with comprehensive pre-season programmes for referees. Courtesy of Nigeria Whistlers and overseen by Sir Kelechi Mejuobi, this year’s pre-season programme promises rigorous training and thorough assessment to ensure top-notch refereeing.

Evaluator Program:
– Arrival: August 14
– Advisors Seminar: August 15 and 16

Assessors will meet to discuss the latest in officiating standards and strategies, ensuring they are well prepared to assess and guide referees through their pre-season regime.

Referee batch A:
– Arrival/Medical assistance: August 17
– Physical fitness test: August 18
– Field/Conferences: August 19 and 20
– Mini match: August 21
– Departure: August 22

Group A referees will arrive and undergo medical assessments on the 17th, followed by a fitness test on the 18th to confirm their physical readiness.

The 19th and 20th will be dedicated to field work and conferences, focusing on the latest regulatory changes and best practices.

The training will culminate with a mini-match on the 21st, which will allow the referees to apply their skills in a real game scenario before leaving on the 22nd.

Referee Lot B:
– Arrival/Medicine: August 22
– Physical fitness test: August 23
– Field/Conferences: August 24 and 25
– Mini match: August 26
– Departure: August 26

Similarly, Group B’s programme mirrors that of Group A, with activities commencing on 22 August and concluding on 26 August. This structured approach ensures that all referees, regardless of group, receive identical training and assessment opportunities.

The NPFL is set to begin on August 30, so these intensive pre-season programmes are crucial to keeping refereeing standards high. Fans and teams alike can look forward to a season marked by fair play and exceptional refereeing performance.
