The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has announced the suspension of the previously proposed 800% increase in navigation fees, following intervention by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
The decision to halt the dramatic increase, which was initially due to take effect, was communicated by Abdullahi Musa, NAMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, in a statement issued on Monday.
Musa explained that the reversal of the agency’s decision was carried out in accordance with Keyamo’s direction, who was aware of the severe economic pressures currently affecting many Nigerians.

The initial proposal, unveiled last Friday, aimed to increase navigation fees by up to 800%, a move that has drawn widespread concern and criticism from passengers and aviation industry stakeholders. The steep hike is expected to impact flight costs and overall travel affordability.
Musaβs statement highlighted that the Aviation Minister stressed the need for additional consultations before the new fees were imposed. Keyamoβs intervention reflects a broader awareness of the economic challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians and a commitment to ensuring that such significant changes do not worsen financial hardship.
The minister’s directive underlined the importance of balancing necessary fiscal measures with sensitivity to the economic realities experienced by communities, ensuring that any adjustments to navigation fees are introduced in a manner that takes into account the current economic context.
