Chukwueze’s goal gives AC Milan victory over Real Madrid

Samuel Chukwueze’s 55th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for AC Milan against Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Chukwueze, running unmarked on the right, deftly converted Mattia Liberali’s pass with a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Thibault Courtois from eight yards.

He scored his first goal of the preseason with the Italian club.

The Nigerian striker has been in impressive form, having provided two assists in Milan’s previous game against Manchester City.

Chukwueze’s performance earned him high praise from new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca, who substituted him in the 76th minute.

“The result is not that important, but winning in general is,” said Fonseca. “I am very optimistic about tonight. Our intention was to dominate the game with the ball.”

Looking ahead to the Serie A season, Fonseca stressed the importance of continued effort.

“We have three weeks of work ahead of us before the Serie A starts. It will take us a lot of work to improve, but we see that something is happening in our game.”

Chukwueze, who scored once in 24 appearances for Milan last season, also had Milan’s best chance of the first half in the eighth minute but Courtois lunged and saved to deny him.
