On Sunday, hundreds of demonstrators continued their protests in Kano, marking the fourth day of nationwide demonstrations against hunger and bad governance.
The protests came hours after President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation, urging youths to end their demonstrations, and claiming he had heard their concerns clearly.
Simultaneously, the Kano State government eased the previously 24-hour curfew by six hours to 8am to 2pm to lessen its impact on citizens.
Protesters, especially youths, were seen demonstrating in several areas such as Bakin Zuwo and Koki in Dala Local Government Area, Sharada in Kano Municipality, and Gadon Kaya in Gwale Local Government Area.

Observers reported that the protesters were waving Russian flags, suggesting they may have sought assistance from Russian President Vladimir Putin. An eyewitness in Bakin Zuwo, Malam Salisu, described the scene, saying, “I saw the protesters in large numbers at around 10am. They were holding Russian flags. They were protesting against issues of poor governance such as insecurity and hardship, etc.”
Another user posted a video on X, using the handle @Tkr__khalifa, showing protesters in Bakin Zuwo carrying Russian flags and chanting “koya gyara sai ya sauka,” which means “whether he adapts or not, he must go.” The tweet was accompanied by the caption, “Hunger protests continue in Kano for the fourth day. This comes after a hopeless speech by the country’s President.”
