Camavinga will miss the Super Cup due to a knee injury

Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Atalanta and the first part of the season after suffering a knee injury.

Camavinga twisted his knee during training at the National Stadium in Warsaw on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was left with his studs on the ground and then collided with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

In a statement released on Wednesday (via BBC), Madrid said scan results showed Camavinga had sprained the collateral ligament in his left knee.

While Real did not put a timeframe on Camavinga’s recovery, the club reportedly expect the midfielder to be out for up to seven weeks.

The Frenchman played 46 times in all competitions last season as Real won the La Liga title and the Champions League.

Madrid face 2024 Europa League champions Atalanta in Poland in the Super Cup, with Kylian Mbappe expected to make his competitive debut for the club following his move from Paris St-Germain.

The club will begin the defence of its Liga title against Mallorca at the Bernabéu on 18 August.
