NAFDAC raids illegal liquor factory, arrests 3 suspects in Lagos Island

The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has raided an illegal alcohol factory on Lagos Island and arrested three people.

The agency confirmed the development in a statement posted on its X account on Friday.

NAFDAC said its officers raided several shops and premises at Oke-Arin market after obtaining credible intelligence and discovered a makeshift factory used to produce various alcoholic beverages.

The statement read: “After close surveillance, officers discovered that several packaging sites and rooms in Oke-Arin Market had been converted into makeshift factories where various brands of alcoholic beverages were produced, packaged and distributed in the open market.

“In the raid, more than 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and packaged drinks were confiscated, along with mini plastic mixing tanks, assembled filters, and various packaging materials.

“Three suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.”
