‘Fake Letter’ – Governor Lawal denies appointing Zamfara bandits as special advisor

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal on Wednesday denied appointing a suspected bandit, Bashir Hadejia, to his cabinet.

The arms smuggler was arrested by security agents on treason charges last week.

Following the arrest of the suspect, his appointment letter dated October 27, 2023, with the name of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar M. Nakwada, appearing on the document surfaced on social media and sent shockwaves across the state.

Hadejia served as special adviser to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, during his tenure as governor of Zamfara State.

Governor Lawal, who appeared on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, urged the people of Zamfara State to disregard the claims.

He said the bandit’s appointment letter was fake.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the state.

Lawal said: “I want to make a clear statement here. I did not appoint Hadejia as Special Adviser.

“If you look at the letterhead itself and the date, there is something fishy. We issued a statement that we had nothing to do with it, it was a fake letter.

“Whenever I appoint advisors, I usually tell the media that I have appointed X, Y and Z in different positions. I challenge anyone to show me where we have made such a statement.”
