The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) claimed on Thursday that troops deployed in various operational areas killed 1,166 suspected terrorists in 29 days across the country.
Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, stated this while briefing journalists on the operations of the armed forces in Abuja.
He said troops arrested 1,096 criminal suspects and rescued 721 hostages during the period.

Other items that were successfully confiscated were 1,991 7.62 mm NATO bullets, 293 bullets, 42 other types of firearms, and 2,498 other types of ammunition.
Buba said some terrorist leaders and commanders were taken out of the battlefield due to military attacks on their areas.
He said: “Those in the North East are Munir Arika, Sani Dilla (alias Dan Hausawan Jibilarram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, Bakoura Araina Chikin, Dungusu, Abu Darda and Abu Rijab.
“For the North West region we have, among others, Kachalla Dan Ali Garin Fadama, Kachalla Dan Mani Na Inna, Kachalla Basiru Zakariyya, Sani Baka Tsine, Inusa Zangon Kuzi, Ibrahim, Tukur and Kamilu Buzaru.
“Ongoing operations across the country have significantly reduced the military capabilities of terror groups and prevented terrorists from carrying out large-scale attacks.
“The most common situations these days are small-scale clashes and attacks on vulnerable targets.
“We are aware that we are facing a cunning, cruel and brutal enemy whose acts of terror must be stopped.
“Therefore, the military is ready to act with the relevant level of force necessary to disband this terror group.
“The strategy of the troops is to weaken the capabilities of these terrorist groups and create conditions that will prevent them from carrying out acts of terror or harming citizens.”
