EFCC arrests suspected fraudster who impersonated its chairman in alleged $1 million fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested four members of a syndicate who allegedly impersonated its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in a $1 million fraud.

EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at Gimbiya Road, Garki, and Apo Legislative Offices in Abuja.

Oyewale added that the suspects impersonated the EFCC chairman and contacted the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko, to strike a deal.

According to him, the suspects claimed that Bello-Koko was involved in a fictitious EFCC investigation while he was MD of the NPA.

“The impersonators allegedly demanded one million dollars from Bello-Koko, threatening to arrest and sue him if he failed to comply.

“After receiving intelligence information about the impersonators, EFCC officers were deployed to liaise with the suspected fraudsters, which led to their successful arrest.

“The suspects are currently in EFCC custody and will be charged to court after completion of investigations,” the spokesperson added.
