Weightlifter Folashade Oluwafemiayo ended her country’s campaign at the Paris 2024 Paralympics on a high note on Sunday.
The Nigerian Team captain won the gold medal in the women’s para-powerlifting 86kg category.
In addition to claiming gold, Oluwafemiayo broke two world records during the event.
She first set a new Paralympic record by lifting 162 kg, surpassing the previous record of 160 kg held by compatriot Josephine Orji.

He then broke his own record by lifting an incredible 167 kg and setting a new Olympic record.
China’s Xuemei Deng secured the silver medal with a 155kg lift, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali took bronze with a 145kg lift.
With Oluwafemiayo’s performance, Team Nigeria closed its participation in the 2024 Paralympics with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
