Ogun govt to impose price controls, suspend market levies

The Ogun State Government has moved to introduce a price control mechanism in the state.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, stated this at a meeting with market leaders led by the Iyaloja General, Mrs. Yemisi Abass, at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

He said the move was part of the state government’s efforts to ensure food prices are more affordable for the people of the state.

Abiodun added that the government would soon launch the operations of the Bulk Purchasing Company, which was renamed Gateway Trading Company.

The company, he said, will ensure that food costs are more affordable for the public.

He said: “We have also decided to start implementing bulk buying and selling in the state. For this purpose, the state government has changed the name of our Bulk Buying Company, which is now known as Gateway Trading Board.

β€œGateway Trading will help provide food to our community at prices much lower than market prices.”

The governor noted that the company would initially start operations in four zones of the state, buying in bulk and reselling at more affordable prices to the public.

“We will aggressively implement our Gateway Trading objective. Initially, they will operate in four zones, buying in bulk and reselling at more affordable prices to the public,” he added.

Governor Abiodun also announced the suspension of all forms of market levies in the state.

He warned that anyone caught charging illegal fees in markets across the state would face the full force of the law.
