SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS: Netizens react as Ebonyi Deputy Governor distributes N1k to poor in poverty alleviation effort (Video)

Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila, has drawn criticism after she was caught on video handing out N1,000 to poor residents as part of her poverty alleviation programme.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Princess Obila is seen going around what appears to be a popular transportation unit in Abakiliki, handing out cash to commercial motorcycle riders as well as some disabled persons.

An X user with the account @Kayorinyon who shared the video on Tuesday wrote:

“A video of Ebonyi Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila, distributing ₦1k to the poor in Abakaliki has been trending. The video came after she donated to a church and provided fertilizer to farmers. Reactions are mixed—what are your thoughts?”

In response, several X users took to the platform to share their thoughts.

“I’m sure they’re prostrating themselves to thank him because without that 1k they would have had a kpai by now. Many Nigerians don’t respect themselves. Sigh.”

“Those people deserved what they got. I condemn everything about Nigeria. How can a grown man accept 1000 naira if he is not a complete fool.
What a huge impact that money would have on their miserable lives.
My advice is that people should stop helping others. Let them perish.”

“Nigerian politicians are so lucky, they are even surprised at how lucky they are.”

“As much as 1k? That’s too much na…”

“Yes. They need 1k. To keep the body small.
It’s time we stop pitying people who collect money and sit back. I can’t pity them anymore. But he’s going to take and sell his 4 years to these jerks.

In that case, someone would expect me to pity them, right? Lies, lies. If I tell you what I heard from an Edo girl, eh, you don’t pity these people, whatever happens to them.
