Mr. Abayomi Tella on Saturday emerged as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
He was elected at the party’s state congress overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abeokuta.
In his speech after being announced as the winner of the election, Tella said his leadership would restore the party’s legacy.
He said the true identity of the PDP was not as an opposition, but as a strong and ruling party.
The new chairman stated that the process of returning the PDP to power is near and will occur in the 2027 elections.
Tella lamented that the party had gone through a series of underserved traumas, various forms of unnecessary internal strife, and judicial interventions.

He expressed optimism that the parties were ready to repair relations and move forward.
He said: “I have to say that our true identity is not as an opposition but a return to our heritage as a ruling party, is imminent and must happen at the next election.
“We must acknowledge that the success of today’s congress comes from various prominent people who are willing to play an important role in this God’s project.
“Ogun state PDP will proudly be rejuvenated, rebuilt, reorganized and repositioned for success in the upcoming elections by the grace of God.
“We need ourselves, and working together again should not be difficult or impossible.
“Project 2027 is the top agenda of this newly elected executive and requires everyone involved.”
