● Sabotage Rivers Budget and LGA elections

[Press Release] The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (Huriwa) launched the alarm for what describes as a dangerous plot from the 27 legislators faithful to the Minister of the Territory of the Federal capital, Nyesom Wike, to destabilize the political landscape of the State of the rivers and undermine the democratic government.

The Huriwa alarm arrives following the news that the legislators, led by the speaker Martin Amawhule, abruptly updated the Chamber of Assemblies of the Rivers Sesses indefinitely shortly after receiving the letter of the governor Fubara who asked to re -enter the law on the appropriation of 2025, in accordance with the recent sentence of the Supreme Court.

This move, Huriwa supported, was a deliberated attempt to frustrate the implementation of the sentence of the Court Apex and sabotage the regular conduct of the already planned local government elections in August.

In a declaration issued on Sunday, Huriwa accused the Wike field of tracing against the democratic process in the state of sparrows, deliberately undertaking an indefinite legislative invoice aimed at sabotage the governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the appropriation of 2025 and conduct the already planned area of the local government (LGA) in the elections of August.

The Association has expressed concern for the dangerous political game played by the members of the Assembly who, rather than supporting the rule of law and constitutional governance, have chosen to undermine the sentence of the Supreme Court and frustrate the attempts to the government of the State of the rivers to restore stability and normality.

“It is clear that the Wike field does not want the implementation of the Supreme Court sentence because both the presentation of the state budget and the conduct of the next LGA elections are planning. This is a left stratagem to immerse the state of rivers in avoidable chaos and political instability, “said Huriwa.

Huriwa praised the governor Fubara for demonstrating the leadership and adhesion to the rule of law by promptly notifying the Chamber of the Shareholders’ Meeting of the State of his intention to start the budget in full compliance with the decision of the Supreme Court. “Although he has been denied access to the assembly complex during his last attempt, the governor Fubara showed considerable moderation and a commitment for good government.

“The Governor has shown his will to implement the Supreme Court sentence in good faith. However, the 27 legislators loyal to the Minister of FCT are clearly working against the interest of the rivers, taking an indefinite return to deliberately block the presentation and passage of the vital budget of 2025 “, underlined Huriwa.

The association warned that the indefinite update is nothing more than a move calculated to frustrate the governance, deny that the people of the rivers would declare the dividends of democracy and sabotage the elections of the Lga of August, which the government has already planned to guarantee the basic leadership with democratic means.

Huriwa argued that the Supreme Court had already issued clear directives for all government weapons to operate within constitutional paintings and any further delay or refusal to rejoin the plenary sessions constitutes a maximum disobedience to the sentence and a clear face to the Constitution.

“The plot of the Wike group to frustrate the Supreme Court sentence on the presentation of the budget and the conduct of the LGA elections failed,” said Huriwa. “The people of the state of rivers are fully aware of these anti -democratic machinations and will resist any attempt to derail peace and progress gained hard in the state.”

The Association invited the Chamber of the Shareholders’ Meeting of the Rivers to return immediately to the plenary and carry out their constitutional duty to approve the 2025 budget, which is crucial for the development and well -being of the citizens of the State. Huriwa stressed that the continuous indefinite updating of the sessions is a disservice for the people and undermines the democratic will of the state of sparrows.

Huriwa also warned against any underground attempt to restore the former presidents and councilors of the LGA who since then left the assignment in line with the constitutional provisions. The Association reiterated that such a move would have been welcomed with a strong opposition, since the good people of the state of the rivers is prepared to democratically elect their leaders of the local council in August without interference by the political godparents.

“It is not only unconstitutional but also non -democratic to try to impose former LGA officials to people against legally scheduled elections. Any plot to derail this democratic process will be resisted by the people of the rivers who are eager to exercise their right to vote and determine their leadership at the basic level “, reads the declaration.

Huriwa has urged Minister Nyesom Wike to refrain from the instigation of his loyalists to implement this dangerous plot, who, if left success, could immerse himself on the state of rivers in deeper political disorders and jeopardize the peace and security of the state.

The association has reminded Wike of the serious responsibility that leaders must support peace, promote democratic ideals and act in the best interest of the people, not for personal political ambitions.

“As a former governor and now federal minister, Wike must resist the temptation to destabilize his state of origin for political opportunities. The people of the rivers deserves peace, stability and development, not infinite a fight of power and political manipulations, “said Huriwa.

The association invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the National Assembly and other interested parties well intentioned to intervene to ensure that the rule of law prevails in the state of sparrows. The people of the state of rivers must be authorized to enjoy democratic governance without undue interference or attempts to subvert the judicial declarations.

In conclusion, Huriwa reiterated her solidarity with the governor Fubara and the people of the state of sparrows in their research of legitimate, peaceful and democratic governance. The association has committed itself to continuing to support the supremacy of the Constitution and the protection of citizens’ rights against political oppression.
