The Minister of Work, Dave Umahi, on Thursday apologized to the lagos for disturbances caused by the sudden closure of the bridge of independence.
Umahi made an apology when he toured on a bridge in Lagos.
He said that the bridge closure was for rehabilitation of urgent rehabilitation of a collapsed retaining wall but made without his knowledge or approval.
The bridge is closed for maintenance and rehabilitation work on April 1.
However, it was reopened on Wednesday.

The Minister said: “Unfortunately, when the bridge will be closed, I was not told. It is unfortunate because the bridge is closed, especially in Lagos, as well as tradition, I must be told as a minister.
“We should also study the implications even in an emergency. We will mobilize an emergency evaluation of the implications of the closure of the bridge.”
Umahi warned that the controller of work and engineers would face disciplinary actions if such events occur again.
“I use the opportunity to warn all controllers and engineers throughout the country. Never close the road or close any bridge without crossing a permanent secretary, who will ask permission from the honorable Minister of Work,” he added.
