The Minister of Defense, General Christopher Musa (retired), denied reports that he was resigning from his post, describing the speculation as lies and announcing plans to initiate legal proceedings against those responsible for spreading the news.
Musa made the statement on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, and emphasized that he was not considering or discussing resigning from office.
“I’m not going anywhere. I’ve never discussed this. I don’t know who brought the information. But whoever it is, we will take legal action,” said Musa.
The Minister of Defense, who arrived at State House around 15.00 and left after 16.00, said that demands for his resignation were completely baseless.
Reiterating his determination to pursue those behind the report, Musa stressed that the source of the allegations would be identified and held accountable.
“Whoever it is, we will take legal action. I am sure we will arrest him. He will come and explain who gave him the information,” he said.
Musa expressed surprise at the reports gaining traction, arguing that they were spread by individuals who were unhappy with the progress recorded in the country’s security sector.
“We were shocked. I was shocked when I saw that. I don’t know where that came from. But you always expect that there will be people who won’t be happy when things are going well. Security is improving, things are getting better, and for them, that’s a sad thing. They always want to make it seem like it’s not,” he said.
Responding to the purpose of his meeting with President Tinubu, the minister explained that the meeting was part of routine consultations on national security and disclosed that the President expressed satisfaction with the ongoing military operations.

“I just returned from briefing Mr President on the current security situation, and he is very pleased with us. We will continue to do well,” he said.
Musa also used the opportunity to commend Nigeria for supporting security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality, and emphasized that public cooperation remains essential to achieving lasting peace.
“I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the Nigerian people for all their support.
“The support has been enormous. To defeat terrorists and bandits is a whole of society approach. Nigerians have taken part in this, and things are getting better, and they will continue to get better,” he said.
The former Chief of Defense Staff was appointed Minister of Defense by President Tinubu on December 2, 2025, after serving as the country’s top military officer from July 2023. He has consistently overseen the Federal Government’s security operations since serving as minister.
