In the midst of increasing internal tensions and disputes, the governor chosen on the Democratic Party platform (PDP) of the people gathered in Ibadan, the state of Oyo, for high -risk meetings aimed at saving the leading opposition party of Nigeria from what many people describe as “Disintegations of Creeping.”
The two -day meeting, which began on Sundays and continued until Monday, was estimated to be honest and decisive. Top in the agenda is a deeper political crisis in the state of Rivers, who has thrown Governor Siminaayi Fubara, as well as the Deputy Chairperson of the PDP Governor Forum, against Federal Forces. The governors also weigh the constitutional and political implications of the Supreme Court case of the declaration of the emergency and controversial suspension of Fubara.
The Secretary of the PDP National Publicity, Debo Ogunagba, confirmed the meeting, describing it as an important forum to handle “urgent problems that threaten unity, credibility, and party readiness for the 2027 general election.”
The core of the current dissatisfaction is the decision of the Supreme Court on March 21 which returns the Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Party. The decision canceled previous support from Sunday Ude-Okoye, a candidate who was liked by the Governor of PDP. While the two camps have declared victory, Certified True Copy (CTC) from the decision, now in the hands of the Governor, is expected to form the tone and results of the discussion.

“This is not time for good,” said a person in the party who is familiar with the agenda. “The governor must be brutally honest with each other if PDP has a chance in 2027.”
Challenges of Party Leadership Coated. The governors are expected to negotiate for a prolonged delay in holding a party executive committee meeting (NEC), disputes in the National Work Committee (NWC), and the ongoing South-South Zonal disagreement, all of which have weakened the PDP’s ability to present a cohesive front.
Another main conversation point is the developing encouragement to form the united opposition block to the decision of all the progressive congress (APC). Although there is a broad consensus about the need for collaboration, sources say bad ambition and coordination continues to prevent concrete progress.
Meanwhile, efforts to re -position the party are collecting steam. Prominent PDP elders including former Senate President David Mark and Bukola Saraki, Chairperson of the PDP Governor Forum Bala Mohammed, former Governor Jigawa Sule Lamido, and close allies of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar reported in an active consultation to map the rescue path.
