NBA in Ibas: we will not reimburse N300m provided by Govt – Thage Rivers

The Nigerian lawyer association admitted that he received N300 million from the state government of the rivers, but said that he would not have reimbursed the money as requested by the only administrator, the retired admiral IBOK-ETE IBAS.

The professional corpus of lawyers declared him on Monday on his x handle in response to a question by Ibas who should repay the money.

The only administrator asked the application after the NBA has transferred its annual general conference initially provided to be hosted by the State in the state enugu following the declaration of an emergency rule in the State.

The association in the declaration signed the president of his annual conference of 2025, Emeka Obegolu (San), said: “The attention of the annual planning committee of the General Conference was attracted by a declaration accredited to the administrator of the State of Rivers, according to which the government of the State of Rivers paid the hosting rights for the hosting of the NBA AGC 2025.

“We want to clarify that the decision to host the 2025 AGC in Port Harcourt was taken in August 2024 and has not been subject to any offer or payment process of any hosting rights. The host city is not entitled to hosting and there is no representation from the NBA that the conference must be kept in a chosen city.

“Traditionally, due to the enormous cost involved in the hospitation of the planning committee of the AGC conference, the NBA approaches organizations, government agencies and state governments for the support and support required is unconditional and not linked to hosting or rights rights.

“The recent NBA conferences have been supported by several state governments, business organizations, ministries, departments and agencies whose budgets host corporate social responsibilities and share the same vision with the NBA. These financial supports are in the form of gifts, partnerships or sponsorships. The money of the state of rivers was a gift and was not required to have any impulse for the hosting of the right of NBA.

“We commit ourselves to delivering a world -class conference to bar members and we will not be attracted to any useless dispute on this problem.”
