The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has issued a severe warning for the administrator of the State of the rivers, the deputy admiral IBOK ETTE IBAS (RETD.), For any attempt to block themselves on the peaceful demonstrators who demonstrate against the recent emergency state declaration in the state.
The group issued the declaration on Thursday 24 April, following a controversial comment attributed to the media assistant of the administrator, Hector Igbikiowubo, who according to what reported said that the emergency rule guarantees “spacious powers” to IBAS to take any action deemed necessary.
In a declaration signed by his national spokesperson, Mudiaga Ogboru, the NDC described the comment as worrying and remembering the repressive actions during the #endsar protests of October 2020, when the security forces presumably opened fire on unarmed demonstrators.
“Any violence required against the rivers that exercise their inalienable rights as protected by the Nigerian Constitution and the African card will be seen as a serious provocation by the deputy admiral IBA and will be resisted by any legitimate means”, warned the NDC.
The group condemned the declaration of an emergency rule and the appointment of IBA, defining both unconstitutional and non -democratic actions. He also urged the residents of the rivers to intensify peaceful protests against what he described as a “civil couch” supported by the federal government.
The declaration states in part:
“The Congress of the Delta del Niger took note of alleged plans of the deputy admiral IBOK ETTE IBAS to unleash violence on peaceful demonstrators in fiocracy under the remains of having” wide powers “. This is to say the least a passage to silence legitimate dissent.”
The NDC also said that its members, including leaders, have recently been attacked in the state of sparrows. He mentioned accidents such as the kidnapping and detention of its president by the police on March 26, 2025 and the use of living ammunition and tear gas during a protest of April 7 led by NDC and the Take It Back Movement (Tib).
Several protesters, added the declaration, reported injuries and requested medical care, while others were unjustly labeled as criminals by the police.
“The silence of the Endc so far should not be exchanged for weakness,” said the group. “It was out of respect for the ongoing consultations with the elderly and the legal actions in the works.
The group ended by urging the people of the State of the rivers to remain still and continue peaceful events, ensuring the full support of NDC in the fight against what he called “injustice and tyranny”.
