Former Chief Executive of the Group who was fired from the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has denied the rumors of the alleged arrest by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
Rumors of Kyari’s arrest became broad after the arrest reported by the former Executive Director and Senior Official of the three main refineries of the state of the state of Nigeria-Port Harcourt Refining Company, Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, and Kaduna Refining Company and Petrochemical Company.
Affected officials including former Port Harcurt MD Ibrahim Onoja and Warri Refinery Efifia Chu, allegedly taken on the wrong $ 2.96 billion allegedly allocated for the refinery rehabilitation project and maintenance of the refinery turnaround.
But when reacting to rumors, Kyari described them as clear damage and efforts that were calculated to discredit it.
In a post in his X grip on Saturday night, Kyari insisted he had not been arrested or invited by EFCC because he was currently taking “a decent rest” after the recent dissolution of the council and management, and reaffirmed his willingness to answer legitimate questions about his term of office.
Kyari stated that after serving in NNPCL for 34 years, with 17 years in a management position, and six years as the head of the organization, his notes spoke for himself, when he did his duties with transparency and respect for national institutions and divine accountability.
He asked the Nigerian media to act with responsibility and restraint, warning that the spread of claims that were not verified could have damaging consequences for national interests, especially in the eyes of the international community.

“I serve not only my country but also God. I like to calculate my service,” he wrote.
‘Over the past few days and especially in the last 2 hours, I have been flooded with a call from a caring family and friends on claims by online newspapers that I am in custody of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.
“This is a clear damage and efforts calculated by newspapers and sponsors to achieve the desired results, which they only know.
“Right now, I am resting well after the dissolution of management and the NNPCL council, where I am the chief executive of the group.
“It must be stated that it has served NNPC and NNPCL for 34 years, and 17 of them in the role of management and especially the last 5 years and 9 months, I have a little time to leave even two weeks.
“I must emphasize that I serve with fear of God to know fully as a Muslim that if I do not take into account before humans, I will take into account before God, and that I better take into account human institutions.
“Therefore, after serving in public capacity, I am willing and happy to take into account my service in this world.
“However, it is important to state that the resort for disinformation does not serve anyone’s purpose, NNPCL or the country in general, because it has the potential to send wrong signals to investors and the international community.
“In this case I urge the media to be careful and avoid being labeled to be misleading the public about stories that are not verified or things that are subject to further validation by relevant organizations.
“I sincerely thanked my family and friends who had reached me or tried to do it and convince them that I was available to respond to all legitimate questions.”
