After a few weeks from the spotlight, the most sought -after Nigerian bandit leader, Bello Turji, has led the wave of attacks on several communities in the state of Sokoto.
In the coordinated attack carried out on Sunday night until early Monday, the bandits fired around 20 villages in the Sabon Birni Regional Government in the state and kidnapped a number of residents in the raids.
A security expert in the region, and Katsina, who posted news on X together with a video of abandoned people who escaped, said that the villages were fired including Makira, Shabanza, Katsalle, and Turtles, Garin Tunkiya, Dama, and Tazako I, II and III, Gaugai, among others.
“The displaced villagers are currently sheltering in Gatawa, a city in the Sabon Birni Regional Government,” said the security expert.
“A resident, the Saminu Mallam, confirmed the development in a telephone interview, which stated that mass transfer followed a new threat and attack by one of the Lieutenant Top Turji.

“Yes, that’s true. People from many villages around Gataiwa have been displaced and come here to seek protection,” he said, quoting residents.
“Some live with relatives in the city, while the other has been protected in two middle schools – one near the military camp and another in the city.
“Mass transfer once again highlighted the precarious security situation in the eastern part of the State of Sokoto, where continuous attacks continued even though the ongoing military operation aimed at curbing bandits and restoring peace to the region,” he wrote.
He added that efforts to get an official response from the Sokoto state government were unsuccessful because of a special advisor about security issues to the Governor, Colonel Ahmed Usman (Retd.), Could not be contacted.
State police public relations officer, Ahmed Rufai, said he would comment as soon as he received a comprehensive detail about the situation.
