The Chinese ambassador to Nigeria has enriched the imperative of greater collaboration between China and Nigeria in unlocking the potential of the Nigeria solid mineral sector through the establishment of electric vehicles factories in Nigeria.
Speaking while making a courtesy visit to the Minister of Development of solid minerals, dr. Dele Alake in his office on the weekend, Yu Dunhai stressed that Nigeria is a great blessed country with enormous natural resources, observing that China has always put Nigeria in a very fundamental position of its foreign policy.
Recalling the recent high -level commitment between the presidents Bola Tinubu and Xi Jinping during the State Visit of Tinubu in China, the Ambassador Dunhai observed that both leaders agreed to raise bilateral relationships to a global strategic partnership, creating new cooperation opportunities.
“Chinese companies are already deeply involved in the mining sector of Nigeria, from exploration to processing. We aim to deepen this collaboration, in particular in line with the eight priority areas of President Tinubu, in particular economic diversification through solid minerals,” he added.
The ambassador observed that the Embassy and the Chinese government have always warned Chinese companies operating in Nigeria to respect the rules and regulations, implement the social responsibility of companies (CSR) and adhere to environmental and security standards, stressing that Chinese authorities have a zero tolerance for illegal mines, indicating their promptness to work with the Nigeria government
In his response, Dr. Alake said that Nigeria appreciates its long -standing relations with China, recognizing that most Chinese companies operate within legal and regulatory paintings. However, he expressed concern about the actions of some operators who obscure the image of China, referring to a recent viral video that involves an alleged local security agents.
“We took measures against illegal operators, including some Chinese citizens. Although isolated, these accidents undermine the good work of many conforming Chinese companies. We need your cooperation to ensure that such culprits are brought to justice,” said the minister.
The minister also highlighted the impact of the mining marshals established to combat illegal mines by stating that the outfit sent the right signal in the sector, has increased the awareness of the threat and consequently improved compliance with regulations by local and foreign operators.
He reiterated that Nigeria is open to companies to serious investors, underlining that investments in the nation’s mining sector are now focused on the addition of the local value.
“For years, our minerals have been exported raw to feed foreign industrialization. This must change. Now we give priority to local processing to guide the development of Nigeria. For example, with the abundance of lithium, we want to see the local production of electric vehicles and batteries,” he said.
Alake urged Dunhai to encourage Chinese investors to commit themselves to complete cycle investments, from extraction to processing, with Nigeria. He underlined the large Nigeria market and the potential to reduce dependence on fossil fuels through the production of electric vehicles.
By responding, the ambassador Dunhai expressed support to the local policy of addition of the value of Nigeria, underlining that one of the key priorities of President Xi Jinping is the promotion of African industrialization. He revealed that plans are underway to establish factories of electric vehicles and other production initiatives in Nigeria.
