Naira’s abuse: Kano Tiktaker, Murja, sentenced to 6 months in prison

The Kano Directorate of the Commission for Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC), Wednesday, obtained the sentence of social media’s influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, before the judge Simone Amobeda of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.

Recall that Kunya was arrested for the first time in January 2025 but the administrative deposit was granted pending craftsmanship. He did not appear in court when requested.

However, after weeks of intense investigations and surveillance, EFCC agents successfully reorganized the Tiktok influencer on Sunday 16 March 2025. It was subsequently staged on May 20, 2025, where she declared itself guilty for the modified charge.

“You Murja Ibrahim Kunya On the 28th of December, 2023 at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, Within the Jurisdiction of this Honorable Court Whilst Dancing in One of the Rooms at Tahir Guest Palace Tampered With Naira Notes Issued by Central Bank of Nigeria by Spraying and Matching on Same in the Said Occasion and You Thereby Committed an offenence Contrary to Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 “, reads the accusation against Kunya.

Following his reason for guilt, consultant for the accusation, Musa Isah examined the facts of the case and prayed to the Court to condemn it accordingly.

During the judgment on Wednesday, judge Amobeda sentenced her to six months in prison with an option of a fine of 50,000.

Judge Amobeda also directed that Kunya was appointed social media ambassador for both EFCC and Nigeria’s central bank.

“This order requires Kunya to use the scope of social media to educate her followers on the importance of respecting the Nigerian currency and the legal consequences of its abuse or mutilation,” said EFCC.
