Which states the MPOX public health emergency

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday stated that the public health emergency MPOX.

Director General of WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, said in a statement, the increase in MPOX continues to meet the Criteria for the International Public Health (PHEIC) emergency established in International Health Regulations (IHR).

He said the announcement attended the fourth meeting of the IHR Emergency Committee regarding the increase in diseases held on June 5.

According to him, the Committee, acknowledged progress in the capacity to respond in certain countries, told BOS WHO that the event continued to be a PHEIC.

The Head of WHO emphasized that the declaration was based on an increase in the number of sustainable cases, including this new improvement in West Africa, and the possibility of unintecated transmission in several countries outside the African continent

Ghebreyesus said: “The ongoing operational challenges in responding to the event, including regarding supervision and diagnostic, as well as lack of funds, making priority response interventions become challenging and require sustainable international support.

“The increase in MPOX in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its distribution to neighboring countries first determined to become PHEIC on August 14, 2024.

“Since then, the committee has met on three additional opportunities, every time, advising that the event continues to form PHEIC.”
