The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide praised President Bola Tinubu for recognizing and honored Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, asking him to appoint the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (INC) independent.
Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, secretary of the national advertising of Ohanaeze Ndigbo all over the world, declared this while reacting to the speech and the conferment of posthumous honor of 12 June on the late Nwosu.
Nwosu conducted the elections of 12 June 1993 which were judged the freer and more fair elections until the date on which Capo Mosupo Abiola won.
General Ibrahim Babangida canceled the elections on June 23, 1993.
Tinubu on Thursday awarded the commander of the Order of the Niger (Con) prize on Nwosu.
Chukwu described the gesture as a welcome development, affirming that the federal government had made the need to honor Nwosu who said, made a generational sacrifice with true courage by supporting Abiola’s mandate.
“The idea of honoring him is welcomed, however, is late, but at least we appreciate the fact that he was honored”.
Chukwu, however, appealed to the Federal Government to further take a fundamental step by appointing the general quarter of the Inc after Nwosu.
“It is also our desire that the general quarter of the Inc takes its name from Prof. Humphrey Nwosu for the virtue of his role in Nigerian democracy during the military,” he said.
On the economy, the secretary of national advertising observed that the Nigerian economy still needed reforms since economic difficulties have continued to affect all sectors.
According to him, inflation and exchange rates are still very high while the cost of living is at its peak.
“The reforms on which the federal government has undertaken must yet have the human face in the life of the Nigerians.
“Ohanaeze is of the opinion that Nigerian economic policy should be widely revisited to face these challenges.
“It is necessary that the federal government takes concrete measures to reinvent the economy in order to relieve the difficulties and poverty that they face citizens across the board,” he said.
He added that to do it well, it would be necessary that the president takes measures to renovate Nigeria, underlining that without restructuring it would be difficult to fix both the economy and insecurity.
“This is because at state level, governors are not responsible for security since police commissioners are responsible for the police inspector.
“With the renovation, the center will be coupled because we are talking about fiscal federalism, control of resources and devolution of power.
“A system in which the federal government system is in principle, but in practice, it is a unitary government, it cannot actually put the nation on the growth pedestrian.
“This is the solution we are offering. If the country is renovated, there will be a healthy competition between various federal units since various states and regions can have the opportunity to maximize their wealth and add values to their economy,” he underlined.
