While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally recognized the heroes and heroines of 12 June 1993, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) praised the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) for having recognized the precious contributions of Prof. Humphrey Nwosu to the democracy of Nigeria.
The executive secretary of the Commission, dr. Tony Ojukwu (San) said that the conferment of the commander of the Niger order (with) on Prof. Nwosu is an appropriate tribute to his dedication and commitment for democratic ideals.
Recall that Core journalists had previously on Thursday 12 June 2025, published a story in which Dr. Tony Ojukwu urged the federal government to recognize the heroes of June 12 for just and equity.
According to the Chief of Human Rights Prof. Nwosu, the leadership of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) from 1989 to 1993 was marked by significant electoral reforms, including the introduction of the open voting system, popularly known as an A4 option.
“His mandate will be remembered forever for the conduct of the presidential elections of 12 June 1993, widely considered one of the freer and more right in the history of Nigeria,” he said.
He added that this recognition is a testimony of the government’s commitment to honor the heroes of democracy that have made a significant contribution to the country’s electoral process.
