The Council of Nigerian civil society promotes the dispute of the Senate leadership

The Council of the National Civil Society of Nigeria asked for calm and moderation in the continuous disputes involving the president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan.

During a press conference of the State of the Nation Wednesday in Abuja, Amb. The Akinlosotu blessing, executive director of the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN), has urged all parties interested in avoiding making prejudicial statements or undertaking actions that could influence public opinion or judicial results.

The Council underlined the importance of respecting the judicial process and allowing courts to manage the question with professionalism and objectivity. “Since the question is under judgment, it is inappropriate and prejudicial to anyone who express a judgment or make conclusive public statements,” says the declaration.

Given the current fragile state of Nigeria, the Council recommended against mobilizations that could intensify the tension or lead to the disorder. They also discouraged the political exploitation and the opportunistic conduct that could interrupt the functioning of the Senate.

The Council appealed to respected national figures and elderly statists to exercise moderation and avoid inflammatory observations. They also urged civil society and non -governmental organizations to focus on national development and resist being used by political interests.

The Council warned that he would sanction all the members involved in protests or activities that lead to violence or destruction. “As a guard dog of society and the consciousness of the people, we remain vigilant and we will act quickly to prevent any descent in the chaos,” concluded the declaration.
