But for the intervention of the rescuers, a firefighter in a loading ship, Chang Min, in the port of Apapa, Lagos, would have left a more devastating effect.
It was said that the ship had arrived the port of Lagos on Saturday morning with shipments that include construction equipment, iron rods, methane trucks, wooden products and tires, before they went up in flames.
The ship’s captain successfully guided the ship in the port of Lagos where rescue operations immediately started.

It was learned that the unfortunate ship was helped to moor to Shed 8, Terminal of the Hal Consortium in Apapa.
It was learned that the rescuers who were on the ground waiting for the arrival of the ship, immediately entered into action.
A statement released on Saturday from Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (Lasema), said that the fire was put out through a combined effort by the firefighters of the Fire Unit of Lasema Response Team-Honepanu, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Union of Fire of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
According to the Lasema declaration which was signed by the permanent secretary of the Authority, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyinintilu, the fire was observed at the exhaust point.
The Lasema declaration states: βFollowing rescue notices at 1755 hours, the management of the emergencies of the State of Lagos (Lasema), activated the response plans to the emergencies of the State from the Cobra base to Onipanu.
“Upon arrival on the scene, a Chang min laden load was observed of goods that included methane trucks, wooden products, tires and other highly combustible products caught fire in section two of the load taking.
βThe preliminary investigations conducted by the rescuers on the scene revealed that the fire has been observed at the exhaust point and that the cause has yet to be ascertained at the time of the relationship.
βNo life has been lost and no injury has been reported to anyone like all maritime on board were accounted for.
“The Cobra response team together with all the other rescuers on the scene has undertaken the following actions: debriefing from the crew on board to provide further information to the response teams for emergencies regarding the education that the compartment is completely closed to eliminate the procurement of oxygen, while initial damping was conducted;
“An response plan to fires was agreed by rescuers on a method to combat hell in the most safe way possible to eliminate secondary accidents and also guarantee the safety of all the firefighters; β resuming the taking of the load to allow the fire teams to involve hell; position of the fire and the floor of the ship’s floor.”
The Lasema declaration also added that the fire had been totally extinct and the recovery operation ended.
The cause of the accident had not yet been ascertained since at the time of the presentation of this relationship.
