The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP) was attracted to a briefing printed by the reciting national president, Amb. Umar Damagum, today Wednesday 25 June 2025 in which he attempted to overthrow the resolution of the 99th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) which scheduled the meeting of the 100th NEC for Monday 30 June 2025.
According to reports, the national president of the acting in the said briefing press also announced that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was asked to resume as national secretary of the party, contrary to the resolution of the 99th meeting of the NEC which reported all the issues relating to the National Secretary Office at the meeting of the 100th NEC.
The declarations of the National President to Interim have no basis as no party organ (including the NWC), individual or group has the power to cancel, climb over, veto or vary the resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) pursuant to the establishment of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
To avoid doubt, the NEC is the highest decision -making body of the party, according to the national convention only. By virtue of section 31 (3) of the Constitution of the PDP, the NEC resolution to keep his cent of Monday 30 June 2025 is binding for all bodies, officials, chapters and party members and no organ, group or individual may vary or pay this NEC resolution.
Furthermore, the statement by Amb. Damagum that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was asked to resume the assignment since the national secretary of the party is therefore misleading in contrast with Nec’s resolution.
In light of the foregoing, the meeting of the 100th NEC scheduled for Monday 30 June 2025 has not been canceled or postponed.
