The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, said on Saturday that he did not have a plan to dispose of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mbah, who spoke during an interactive session with a member of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) at Enugu, said he was still in the party.
He said: “I am still in PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me belongs to PDP.”
The governor stressed that the challenges in the PDP were not typical of the parties because other political parties in the country also face challenges.
Mbah stated optimism that the party would immediately solve the problem.
In an independent nomination, Mbah added: “Our constitution does not recognize or have provisions for someone to nominate as an independent candidate. That means you must be sponsored by political parties.

“So, you must keep doing politics because you cannot fully protect yourself from that.
“It is also clear from people in the state of Enugu that we are in this matter to serve them. So we have focused mostly on governance.
“I believe that in the end, people must decide whether they want to update our mandate or expel us.”
The governor revealed that his rival in the 2023 governor election at Enugu, Chijioke Edeoga, had returned to the party to join him in advancing the country.
“So we work closely and that also brings a lot of peace because we do not spend money dealing with all kinds of political battles.
“We are quite peaceful here in terms of politics and work together. We must collaborate with institutions or people to achieve our shared goals and build our country,” he concluded.
