Vice President Kashim Shettima secretly visited former Muhammadu Buhari President at a hospital in London earlier this week about the direction of the Tinubu Bola President, following a report that the former 81-year-old leader was undergoing medical treatment in the UK.
According to a reliable source, Tinubu, after knowing the inpatient of Buhari, canceled a plan to travel to St. Lucia and vice versa instructed Shettima – who had served in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – to continue directly to London and check the condition of Buhari.
Shettima has traveled to Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali for the launch of the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), where he also explored the success of the East African state in agriculture.
“Once the president got word that Buhari had been treated at the hospital, he called the Vice President and asked him to go to London without delay,” said the source.
The deteriorating BUHARI health report has caused broad concerns, with several speculations that show it has been transferred to the intensive care unit. However, former assistant, especially about digital communication, Bashir Ahmad, clarified last Thursday that when Buhari was not healthy, he remained stable and responded to care.

Ahmad was posted on X (previously Twitter): “It is true that the former Buhari President is not healthy and is currently receiving medical attention. However, it is contrary to excessive claims circulating in the media, he is stable and responds well to treatment, and we are optimistic about full recovery.
“We appreciate the outpouring of prayers and good intentions from supporters and sympathizers throughout the world. We continue to pray for complete and fast recovery.”
The source further revealed that Shettima arrived in London in the early days of Monday and spent time with Buhari at the hospital, conveying the message of the good intentions of President Tinubu and personally considered the condition of the former president.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima flew to London on Sunday night, arriving Monday morning. He visited the former president at the hospital and spent hours with him after delivering a message of concern and desire of President Tinubu for fast recovery,” said the source.
“In fact, I think the vice president has connected the president and his predecessor in a call before leaving a former president who was sick. I was told that he also visited the former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who at that time was also in London recovery.”
Apart from the importance of the visit, it was not published. When contacted for confirmation, a senior special assistant to the President in the media and communication (Vice President’s Office), Stanley NKWocha, admitted that Shettima was in London but stopped confirming any meeting.
“Yes, the VP is in London but on a pure personal visit and returns to Nigeria on the same Monday,” NKWocha said.
The health of the former President of Buhari has become a consistent national discussion point during his term of office, mainly because of some long medical trips abroad-especially only 104 days in London during the previous illness.
