The union of the universities of academic staff (Asuu), a chapter of the University of Ibadan, has awarded 11 poor students n1.1 million scholarships.
Speaking during the prize held at the union secretariat, Olajuwon Olayide Extension, Ajibode, president of Asuu, University of Ibadan, dr. Adefemi Afolabi, said that the scholarship is to support students’ education, keep them concentrated and improve their academic performances.
Dr. Afolabi said that the union believed that, despite the numerous challenges that the union must face as regards the delayed payment of salaries and the delay by the federal government in signing a new agreement with the Union, he believes that the future of the bright Nigerian young people should not be truncated due to the throttle of financing the bills of their education.
“Asuu sees investments in the future of poor students as a way to inculcate support and empathy values in the beneficiaries so that they return to society in the future,” he said.
By presenting some of the prizes, the zonal coordinator, Ibadan, Professor Inhabitun Olaniran, represented by the president, Asuu Lautch, Olujimi Dada, said that the union is altruistic and non -selfish in the search for the well -being of its member.
Prof. Olanirando advised As ASUU members not to be tired of pressing the government to make the need to improve their well -being and learning conditions in all public universities.
