Vice -president Kashim Shettimo left London with the remains of the former president Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a London clinic.
Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Senior Assistant of the President for the Media and Communications, the office of the Vice -President, made this known in a statement Tuesday in Abuja.
Nkwocha said “I can only confirm that the vice -president Kashim Shettimo, as directed by President Bola Tinubu, left London for Nigeria in the company of some members of the family of the deceased former president Muhammadu Buhari.
“They are accompanying the remains of the deceased former president for the burial in Daura, in the state of Katsina later today.
“Other members of the Federal Government delegation, as sent by President Tinubu, also left for Nigeria,” he said.
The Federal Government declared a public holiday in honor of Buhari on Tuesday (today), which died on Sunday.
The holiday comes as part of the seven -day national mourning period previously announced by President Bola Tinubu to pay homage to Buhari’s life and heritage.
Buhari died at the age of 82 and his death was confirmed in a statement by his former special councilor, Garba Shehu, Sunday evening.
