APEC pays tribute to the late Prince Eka and says the energy sector has lost a gem

Abuja (Core Reporters) – The power and power sector in Nigeria was thrown into mourning on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following the death of the Commissioner for Power and Energy of Cross River State, Hon. Prince Williams Eka.

Prince Eka, who was also the Chairman of the Nigeria Power and Energy Commissioners Forum, reportedly died in Abuja after collapsing and was rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

His death has been described as a painful loss not only to the government and people of Cross River State, but also to the wider energy community in Nigeria, where he was seen as a committed player in the pursuit of improved access to electricity and sustainable energy development.

As Commissioner for Power and Energy, Prince Eka has been associated with efforts to advance Cross River State’s energy agenda and promote greater focus on the critical role of electricity in driving economic growth, investment, job creation and improved living standards.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Raphael Ekpang, APEC described the death of Prince Eka as a colossal loss to Nigeria’s power and energy sector, stressing that his contributions and commitment would be missed by stakeholders across the sector.

APEC expressed its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Cross River State, his colleagues, associates, friends and, above all, his immediate family.

The association prayed that Almighty God would grant the family the strength and courage needed to bear this irreparable loss.
