The former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who died in a London clinic on Sunday at the age of 82, was resting in his hometown of Daura, in the state of Katsina.

The deceased leader was buried according to the Islamic rites in front of his personal residence, with the vice -president Kashim Shettimo and other dignitaries who help to lower his body in the tomb exactly at 5:50 pm

Shettimo and a delegation of government officials had been in London on Monday to supervise the repatriation of the remains of Buhari.

Tuesday, his body was brought aboard a Nigerian plane (NAF) to Katsina, where he was received by President Bola Tinubu at Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport around 14:00

The coffin that brought the remains of Buhari was welcomed with solemnity and complete military honors such as high government officials, family members and dignitaries gathered on the asphalt to pay homage. From there, the body was transported on the road to Daura.

In Daura, a large crowd of people in mourning had gathered in her residence when the body of the former president arrived at 16:33 prayers were held for the rest of her soul, including the recitations of the Sacred Koran and the prayers of Janzah before her final intervention.

The Federal Government declared a public holiday in honor of the former leader on Tuesday, while President Tinubu was also an inter-ministerial committee for the state funeral.

Buhari, a former military sovereign who climbed power for the first time following a coup in the 1980s, returned following democratic policy and made history in 2015 becoming the first Nigerian to defeat a president sitting at the polls.

He was re -elected for a second term in 2019 and delivered to President Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

After his exit from the office, Buhari spent most of his time in Daura, keeping a low profile and staying out of the eyes of the public.

Tinubu has inherited a country that had to face significant challenges, including two -digit inflation, the lack of changes, insecurity, the low production of oil and widespread economic difficulties.

For his supporters, Buhari was considered a symbol of integrity, a man who avoided the sumptuous lifestyle and corruption often associated with the Nigerian political elite.

However, the critics described him as an “absentee landlord”, a leader who ruled by the delegation, spent long periods abroad, often for medical reasons – and whose detachment let many feel abandoned.

Numerous owners of political offices and former politicians, as well as important traditional sovereigns, were in Daura to pay homage. Among these were President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Olrelmi Tinubu; Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger, wings zeine; Vice -President Kashim Shettimo; Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’Adu Abubakar; Emir of Kazaure, Ahmad Daniwa; Former vice presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo.

Others are; National Security Councilor, Nuhu Ribadu; Head of the staff, Femi Gbajabiamilaila; Governor of the State of Katsina, Dikko Radda; Governor of the State of Borno, Babagana Zulum; Governor of the State of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Oell; Former Governors Aminu Masari (Katsina), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Ibikunle Amosun (OGUN); Former communications minister, Isa Pantami; And former transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
