Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, former commissioner of the Edo State for the digital economy, apologized to Peter Obi and Nigeriani for the recent threats made by the governor on Monday Okpebholo.
According to reports, Okpebholo gave the warning to Uromi, in the area of the local government of Esan North East, Friday, Friday,
Okpebholo was mentioned for issuing the threat, saying that he could not guarantee the security of the former presidential candidate in the state.
Made the declaration while receiving the Hon. Marcus Onobun, former president of the Edo State Assembly Chamber and a member of the Democratic Party of people (PDP) who represents Esan West/Igueben/Central in the room of representatives.
Onobun, who decamped at the All Progressives Congress (APC), was formally welcomed in the party on Friday.
But in a statement released on Saturday in Benin, Ifaluyi-Isibor described the alleged threat as reckless and embarrassing for Edo people.
According to him, the people of Edo is warm, hospitable and tolerant, observing that they had never been known for having issued threats, even against political or critical opponents.
Ifaluyi-Isibor condemned the governor’s comments, stating that Edo was a civil society, educated and welcoming.
According to him, this conduct does not reflect the true character and values of the Edo people.
“The recent comments of the Governor Okpebholo who warn Mr. Obi against Edo’s visit have been widely considered reckless, embarrassing and unsuitable for a public employee.
“Let it be clearly said that it is not what we are. We do not threaten guests, allies or opponents in the Edo state.”
“The governor is not a true reflection of the Edo people. His outburst does not define us.
“Following the circulation of the video, I received numerous calls. My first answer: the governor Obaseki is no longer in office; this is a new sheriff,” he said
He explained that Peter Obi, and in fact all the Nigerians, had the constitutional right to visit or reside anywhere in the country without looking for anyone’s permission.
“Edo People really admire Peter Obi. If he had joined a birthday party on the day of the elections, that party would probably win in the governor’s electoral unit.
“We neglect his court interval and forgive.
“Our culture and ancestors have always welcomed everyone. We remain a proud people rooted in tolerance, unity and peace in all political affiliations.”
According to him, while the state government is increasingly affected by criticism, I apologize in advance for anyone who is offended, please.
