Pension agents retired in FCT, Taraba protests against poor well -being

A group of retired police officers went to the street in Abuja on Monday in a peaceful protest to attract attention to the bad conditions of well -being of the service and retired members of the Nigerian police forces.

The protest was led by the converse of the “Revolution Movement Ora”, Omoyel Sowore, who joined the pensioners to ask for urgent intervention by the federal government.

They expressed regret for what they described as years of abandonment, non -payment of pensions and poor treatment of the officers who had served the nation diligently.

Sowore, speaking during the protest, invited the government to recognize the sacrifices made by the police officers and make sure that their well -being was a priority.

The demonstrators also warned that if the government had not responded promptly, they would have supported their action until their requests were satisfied.

In the state of Taraba, the pensioners organized a protest with banners and signs in Jalingo, the capital of the state.

Among other requests, they asked for an exit from the Police contribution pension regime.

Registrations on some of the signs read: “We ask for the total exit from the pension regime contribution of the mortal police”, “Pension of the contribution of the Police of Scrap” and “We need our full tip”.

“The rights of pensioners must be protected”

The police inspector general (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, had directed all police commissioners on Sunday throughout the country and in the territory of the federal capital (FCT) to provide maximum security for the peaceful protest planned by retired police officers.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed it in a note.

He also warned against the spread of the disinformation that surrounds the protests that will be held nationally on Monday.

“The IGP has ordered that the rights of our retired officers who have chosen to protest must be protected and the protest should serve as a dignified expression model of complaint,” said the force spokesperson on Sunday.
